Access Information

The Bureau is located in a former pub in Blackburn. The ground floor has level access throughout, but the first floor is only accessible by stairs. We have a short-term lease for the building and are unable to fund or install lift access in this building.

To help us address this we

  • Hold as many of our public events as possible on the ground floor
  • Relocated office space to the first floor in order to free ground floor space for public use
  • Developed the garden at The Bureau to increase our ground floor public space

We are aware that this is not ideal, but we will do anything in our power to ensure that your visit to The Bureau is as easy and hassle free as possible. If you want to have a conversation about your requirements and what we can do please email cath@bureaublackburn.co.uk or call 07584 261523

Please be aware - Penny Street, once you pass our building heading toward Morrison's, has bus lane cameras that are active. You will need to approach us from the traffic lights on Barbara Castle Way by The Job Centre and light up billboard, or from Brown Street. DO NOT come up Penny Street from the Morrison's end even if Sat Nav tells you to! If you do end up by Morrison's then carry on through 2 very small stuck together roundabouts, to the big roundabout and take the first exit. Get in the left turning lane at the lights and we are on the corner on the left. You will turn down the side of our building and then take first left at the mini roundabout onto our car park.

Entrances

The Bureau has two public entrances, one which has three steps and one with a single step with portable ramp. We use this as our main entrance whenever possible.

We do not have automatic doors. The main entrance door will be open whenever we have public events on. The doors are heavy pub doors which we will leave open at the beginning and end of events. At other times team members will be available if you need assistance.

Parking

We have parking for visitors to The Bureau. There will be two allocated spaces for disabled people in the main car park and nearest to the accessible entrance. There is a slight incline in front of the building between the car park and the accessible entrance. The accessible entrance is the entrance nearest to Barbara Castle Way.

Public Transport

The Bureau is located 0.2 miles from Blackburn Bus Station and 0.4 miles away from Blackburn Train Station.

There are no steep slopes or steps between either station and The Bureau. There is a taxi rank at the train station. Location Map.

Facilities

Unisex disabled toilets with level access and baby change facilities are available on the ground floor of the building (radar key not required).

We are able to offer table service for drink and food.

Our large room upstairs is bright and open. There are two toilets on the first floor, one with baby change facilities. The toilets are spacious, but not specifically disabled access toilets.

We welcome attendees who need to bring medicines, food or drink to manage a medical condition, or medical equipment, please contact us with any specific requirements or concerns.
