Sunday 12th February 3pm
A fusion of play and cookery demonstration.
Two actors play all the roles in the story of a busy night in the local curry house. They are also joined by guest chef Yazi from Aamaali- offering a spicy cookery demonstration. Includes a chance to share food and conversation with your local chef and the cast.
Deliciously entertaining for all the family!
The story of The Chef Show centres on father and son Abdul and Kamal on a particularly busy night in their restaurant. As they struggle to deal with all of the customers ‘out front’ and the staff in the kitchen they also have to decide on the future of the family business. Will Kamal carry on the family business, or is this the end? Much of the fun of the show comes from seeing just two actors having to play multiple roles – in the same scene!
Comments from our invited audiences during our workshops:
“Very entertaining. It’s something really different.”
“Food, theatre – what’s not to like!”
“Great idea – original, funny, moving.”
This is a comedy inspired by interviews with real people working in the ‘Indian’ restaurant trade. We have found that many rural curry houses and takeaways are run by people who commute long distances and so there can be a lack of knowledge and understanding between them and the local community.
We want to give audiences an entertaining night out, with a delicious taste of food and the chance to learn more about the lives of people who are running these restaurants. We feel this is important in these unsettling times, when hate crimes are on the increase and where world events can lead to a fear of ‘the other’.
