2018 Arts and Science Commissions- Practitioners Wanted.

Are you a Female artist or scientist local to Blackburn who feels you are able to deliver arts sessions to groups with a science twist?

Our project, funded by The British Science Association as part of the British Science week celebrations, is a four week programme for women and girls and will launch  on 10th March 2018, for British Science week with follow up fortnightly sessions on Saturday afternoons  24th March and 7th and 21st April; at The Bureau Centre for the Arts.

Art and Science call out

In these sessions we would like to explore the links between art and science by allowing people to try techniques such as photographic printing; printmaking; shadow puppets and projections; and natural dying, whilst  exploring National Curriculum Science topics like: Forces and magnets; light; electricity; habitats; plants and animals; and materials.

All these activities include processes which have scientific explanations and are a really accessible and fun way to  explore science and its practical implications in the area of creativity.  If you have ideas on an activity around these themes, and are available on these dates please send us your proposal.

 About British Science Week:

British Science Week (BSW) is the largest grassroots celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths in the UK. The annual ten-day programme consists of events and activities for people of all ages. BSW is organised by the British Science Association (BSA), a charity founded in 1831.  Their  vision is of a world where science is at the heart of society and culture.  Their mission is to support, grow and diversify the community of people interested and involved in science; and to strengthen their influence over science’s direction and place in society.

The British Science Association encourage people to engage with science, become ambassadors for science, and ultimately be empowered to challenge, enjoy, and influence British science – whether they are scientists or not.

They want to create more partnerships to ensure that more communities, cultural institutions and public spaces are celebrating and giving people opportunities to participate in science.
